Pretty sure I am still recovering from this amazing wedding from last weekend. What an awesome two days of setting up, coordinating and just generally having the best time running around with my clipboard checking everything was running smoothly for the wonderful Mr and Mrs Rayner.
Back in April I met the lovely bride Zoe at her family home in Thorner, Leeds for a consultation. As soon as I arrived I could see just how huge and unique this wedding was going to be and I couldn’t wait to hear more. When you have a garden as big as this it makes total sense to take advantage of it and plan your ideal wedding. Zoe and Lee opted for a festival themed set up with an enormous amount of colour and bags of fun. After looking around the whole garden and hearing about all the plans I just knew this was going to be a wedding to remember.
Fast forward a few months and the day of set up was here! With three large garden areas, a stream running through the middle and the use of next doors garden for 23 bell tents I think you can start to envisage just how enormous this wedding was, a mini festival was the term I used countless times as that is exactly how it felt!
As you can imagine there was so much to do but thankfully there was lots of friends and family involved which was so lovely to see. After a long day of canape making, table arranging and afternoon tea preparation it was time to head home and get some sleep before the big day!
Before I left I made sure the bride was completely happy with all the arrangements and that my to do list for the wedding day was up to date. My priority as a wedding planner is to make sure the bride and groom have the most amazing day and not need to worry about timings, suppliers etc. I’m there to manage the whole day so that if there are any problems or delays I can handle it and leave the couple to have the best time.
On the day of the wedding the sun was shining which was amazing with it being an outdoor celebration. No matter what time of year you should always prepare for a rainy day. No one likes to think about the weather being poor but having additional shelter just in case will really put your mind at ease and prevent you from feeling stressed in the lead up to the wedding. You can’t control the weather so embrace it! Zoe and Lee had a large marquee for their wedding breakfast with an additional games tent and a quirky styled living room to use as an after party, such a good idea.
The ceremony took place at the local church in Thorner with guests arriving from 2pm to enjoy a drinks reception at the top of the garden with prosecco, a beer bath and summery cocktails served in large vintage Kilner jars. It all looked so lovely with beautiful bunting, balloons and rustic signage.
After lots of fizz and group photos the guests started heading down to the marquee to sit down for the wedding breakfast. Supplied by Will’s Marquees, it looked so beautiful decorated with lots of colour; perfect for a festival theme! The flowers by The Mindful Florist looked absolutely stunning displayed in different coloured paints pots, such an usual yet creative idea.
The cake was also in place, beautifully baked and decorated by the mother of the bride.
Once sat down guests were asked to go table by table to collect their delicious food from the three street food vans that were situated just outside the marquee. Guests were asked to make a choice of either pizza, pie or Indian street food beforehand but a gentle reminder was written on their place name just in case people had forgotten! I was lucky enough to have one of the steak pies and it was amazing. Such a great idea to have food vans with a theme like this, the vans looked so quirky!
After the main course it was time to serve the afternoon tea and cocktails in vintage teapots. This was no ordinary wedding, dessert was to be served by actors and friends dressed as grannies! The most hilarious moment I have ever witnessed at a wedding and the guests loved it. They really looked amazing and it was such a unique idea.
Once the meal and speeches were finished it was time to prepare for the evening celebrations! The Jive Doctors played for the majority of the evening and were great at getting the guests on the dance floor.
Many of the guests made the most of the evening sunshine sat outside enjoying drinks and the warmth of the fire pits dotted around the garden with hay bales for seats. Later on as the evening guests arrived a BBQ was served with the celebrations carrying on until the early hours of the morning.
Luckily for the majority of guests, they only had a short stumble to their glamping tent so that they could rest their head after a fun and boozy day! These bell tents, supplied by Village Belles were absolutely amazing and so pretty! Decorated with bunting, colourful bedding and a special one for the bride and groom; it was such a great addition to the festival theme and a lovely gesture from the couple. With shower and toilet facilities it was the ideal glamping set up.
The couple really did think of everything, the attention to detail was mind blowing! I feel so fortunate to have been part of this wedding and really hope I get to be involved in another festival wedding in the coming future. I really did have the best time and wish the wonderful Mr and Mrs Rayner the most fabulous life together, you both looked wonderful! Zoe’s dress especially was absolutely beautiful. Keep an eye out for the official photos by David West Photography, I have no doubt that they will be amazing!
