I’m so excited to add a ‘supplier in the spotlight’ feature to my blog. Over the coming months you will hear from lots of amazing suppliers who can support you with your wedding plans. I am very fortunate to work with so many creative suppliers and now you get the opportunity to hear all about them too!
First up we have Louise, owner of Yorkshire Rose Wedding Hire. If you live in the Yorkshire region and are looking to hire props for your wedding, have a read and get in touch!
What made you launch your own wedding hire business?
It all started with a 1930s typewriter which I sourced for my own wedding in North Yorkshire in 2014. I knew I wanted to display a typewriter alongside our guestbook as I felt it symbolised our own story of how we met as journalists.
After our wedding I launched my wedding blog yorkshirerosebrides.com to share inspirational brides stories and feature handmade and luxury suppliers. I love writing the blog and featuring weddings but wanted to be more hands-on, so two years later, I launched our sister company Yorkshire Rose Wedding Hire.
Our inventory had grown from one lovingly sourced item to hundreds of beautiful pieces which add the finishing touches to a hen party, engagement celebration or the big day itself.
We can now offer inspiration, advice, prop hire and styling!
Where are you based and what areas do you cover?
We are based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire and cover the whole of Yorkshire. We attend wedding fairs across the region so we can chat to couples and they can see some of our props and get a feel for what we do.
What sort of props do you hire out for weddings?
Our prop hire is based around our style packages which Include our 4ft illuminated rustic LOVE sign, Cast Iron Royal Mail post box, Cinema Lightbox and Welcome sign. Couples can then choose additional items which are most suited to their venue and individual taste and budget.
We also offer bespoke table centre piece design from our collection using our mercury glass votives, candelabras, silverware, milk jugs, birdcages and lanterns.
Our rustic items include birch wood centrepieces, tea chests, apple crates, picnic baskets and gate post direction signs. We also stock vintage suitcases, china tea sets, vintage kitchen wear, cake stand and tea trolley.
Our french dresser is also popular as a cake stand or guest book display.
Why would I hire props instead of buying them?
Quality props can be expensive, particularly when you require multiple items in the same style and finish. Sourcing items for your wedding is very time consuming; yes the internet can be great, but lots of vintage items are found at antique dealers and aren’t online. If you do buy online they may not be as described and returns are often at the buyers expense.
Lastly props can be tricky to store as they can be delicate, take up a lot of room and you’ve also got to have a van to transport them to your venue and set up.
What is your most popular item?
Our LOVE sign has been really popular as it’s got a rustic vibe and adds the ‘wow’ factor to any venue.
How far in advance should brides book to hire your props?
We are happy to discuss bookings at any stage in a couples’ wedding planning journey. We can sometimes accommodate short notice weddings but equally, our diary is filling up for next year so it can be good to plan ahead. I would say around 10 months before a wedding is about average for our bookings at the moment.
What advice would you give brides when they are looking for prop hire items for their wedding day?
There’s loads of inspiration out there so it’s good to maybe set up a pinterest board or check out our blog!
Prioritise things into a wish list, and a must list. Like all aspects of planning a wedding budget is a great place to start. Once you’ve got an idea of how much things cost you can set your budget against what you can afford or would be happy to spend.
Are you looking to launch any new products in the coming months?
We’ve just styled a copper pipe wedding backdrop display which is due to have it’s wedding debut in the autumn.
We love to talk all things wedding and offer free client consultations either in Mirfield or at the couples chosen venue.
