Mr and Mrs Hornsby – A Beautiful Autumnal Village Hall Wedding

My last wedding of my first year in business was a stunning DIY autumnal wedding in Burnsall. I met the lovely Rosie and Caleb back in the summer to go over their plans so far and hear all about their special day. They spoke about how they were having their ceremony at the beautiful Priest’s House followed by a village hall celebration at Burnsall Village Hall. I absolutely love village hall weddings! Having a complete blank canvas allows you to have the most personal and bespoke wedding day which is exactly what they had. A special thank you to the lovely wedding planner Lucy for recommending me!

Fast forward to the autumn season and after finalising plans with the suppliers the wedding day had arrived! The couple and their loved ones had spent endless hours decorating the venue and putting together all the finishing touches ready for the reception. You could tell how much love had gone into the whole day, it all looked absolutely stunning. The colour palette chosen was perfect for the time of year with pumpkins dotted around and lots of fairy lights and candles. The weather was slightly wintry to say the least but once you were inside it all looked so magical and cosy. The beautiful flowers by Flowers from the Garden were so colourful and autumnal, I loved how they had dotted them around in various areas throughout the village hall. So much colour!

The mother of the bride had a large letter H made out of wood for guests to sign as a surprise for the bride and groom with the idea that it will be made into a coffee table for them both to enjoy. I loved all the decorations but I think that has to be one of my favourites alongside the table plan. It was clear that guests were impressed too and rightly so, it looked amazing.

Often with village halls, the furniture needs a little face lift so the couple chose to hire in all the tables and chairs from All Things Borrowed. They really do make a huge difference to the overall look so I would seriously consider this option if you are unsure of the furniture that is available as part of the package.

Food and Drink

Guests were treated to delicious english pub grub style food for the wedding breakfast with a choice of pie, chilli, fish and chips and steak sandwiches. This was all served and prepared by Ribble Valley Group; I had a portion of the cheese and onion pie and it was soooo good! They also prepared a large buffet for the evening reception with lots of cheese, olives, meat platters, and salad. The naked wedding cake was also served which was baked and decorated by family friends Wendy and Karen. How yummy does it look?!

Cock o’ the North set up a bar for the afternoon and evening serving lots of beer and speciality spirits that the family had requested.

Photography and Videography

Capturing the day beautifully was photographer Gareth Newstead and family friend Chris Ball. I have been lucky enough to have a sneak peek of a few of the images and they look amazing! Choosing the right photographer is so important as your photos will be your memories forever. I have no doubt that the rest of the images will be beautiful, Rosie and Caleb made a very good choice! I have included a few of the professional in this post, they are so natural and the happiness on their faces are just beautiful.

Having a videographer present is becoming more and more popular and I can totally see why. Imagine being able to relive your vows again or the moment you had your first dance as husband and wife. Such wonderful memories that you can watch over and over again.

I just love listening to the speeches and I have to say that so far these ones in particular were the best yet! It was so lovely to hear from the bride’s maid of honour, something that doesn’t happen very often. Being a MOH for your best pal or family member is a big deal so you to should get your time to shine!

The groom chose to sing his speech which was bloody amazing and had everyone, including me in stitches! He gave thanks to all guests for joining them on their special day, thanks to the beautiful bridesmaids and of course huge love and thanks to his wonderful new wife. It was really gorgeous and pretty emotional; yes even when I have only known the couple for a short time I still often shed a tear. It’s always so nice to hear how much they love each other, one of the many reasons why I love what I do!

Getting everyone in the party mood for the evening were the fabulous Marc and Abi. I always think sometimes with live entertainment it can be difficult to get the crowd going but wow these guys were amazing! As soon as they started the dancefloor was full until the end of the night. They had so much energy and everyone loved it. They also provided DJ music in between each set with requests coming from the room all night. I even had a little dance! Mostly whilst in the kitchen or corridor I must add, my dance moves are not the best…

Hair and Makeup

Even when couples book me for the ‘on the day coordination’ service this always includes liaising with all suppliers who are involved in the wedding to ensure everyone is aware of the timings etc. Rosie and her gorgeous bridesmaids looked stunning with their bohemian curls by Craig Simon and makeup by Helena at Jenn Edwards & Co.

Thank you

One thing I do need to mention is just how welcoming everyone was towards me. Often when you are coordinating an outdoor or DIY wedding you can get some funny looks as guests wonder who you are and what you’re actually doing there. It was really nice to get a thank you and mention in the speech even though I wasn’t expecting it and went ridiculously shy and hid behind a door… I then had numerous guests coming up to me saying thank you which was honestly a dream and so nice of them. I think wedding planners are still a bit unknown to a lot of people but with these kind of set ups it really can make your day so much more relaxed. After all the hard work that everyone put into this special day I really wanted Rosie and Caleb to have the best time and not worry about a thing.

Thank you so much to Mr and Mrs Hornsby for booking me as your Wedding Planner and leaving such a heartwarming review on my Facebook page. You truly were the best couple a planner could ask for and even after a 16 hour day I was still smiling and singing to my car radio all the way home. I wish you so much happiness as Mr and Mrs Hornsby.

Lots of love, Sian xx

If you have booked a hire only venue and are thinking about support on the day then please do not hesitate to get in touch. It can really make a difference having someone there all day to manage your special day and make sure everything is in position ready for your arrival.
